I should have read that Book Tag

Or the one in which Liz from Travel in Retrospect called me out by tagging me. The tag was originally created by Booksnest. And I have way too many books I should have read by now so feel like maybe they made it with me in mind!

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

I really don’t read much that people tell me to read and I also don’t get people telling me to read much which may be related? Who knows! (People should definitely give me suggestions so I can ignore them more!) But a family member has suggested History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund. Which does sound good.

A book that’s been on your tbr forever and yet you still haven’t picked up

2 books did you say? Okay. So 2 books that according to goodreads are the oldest adds to my tbr and I still really want to read and am planning on reading….soon. Are Warchild by Karen Lowachee and Pantomime by Laura Lam. Both have been on my tbr since 2013. Eeek. But I did recently go through my tbr and make a most want to read backlist of 50 books and both made it on so hopefully I actually will read them this year!

A book in a series you’ve started but haven’t got around to finishing

So many? I am really bad at getting around to finishing series but two I really want to finish are Shades of Magic by VE Schwab. I’ve read the first two. I need to read the final one. And The Great Library by Rachel Caine. Again, I’ve read the first two and need to read the next ones. Both of those are series I finally got around to reading book 2 of recently and they were so good!

A classic you’ve always liked the sound of but never actually read

I don’t get on with classics but books like 1984 and Brave New World would be top of the list with other SFF genre classics.

True story, I actually bought 1984 planning to read it 6 years ago but my brother asked if he could borrow it, brought it on his gap year with him, leant it around and by the time he brought it back to me it was about twice the size with water damaged pages. So I didn’t read it. That isn’t my fault.

A popular book it seems everyone but you has read

What popular books have I read might be a better question. I’m always so behind I feel like the hype train doesn’t stop at my station. I see it. I hear it but……

Okay. Maybe the most popular ones would be The Mortal Instruments by Cassie Clare – I’ve read The Dark Artifices series but just have no interest reading the original series. And Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. I mean I actually really enjoyed book 2 & 3 of ACOTAR but I don’t see me ever reading this one. It just doesn’t jump at me and there are so many books that do.

A book that inspiried a TV /film adaptation but you haven’t read yet

Pretty much any classic would fall under this question. I don’t get on with the writing style in classics but they are good stories that I enjoy watching. But as far as books I’m planning on reading, I don’t tend to watch adaptations until I’ve read them. Maybe the only book I would go back and read is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, The BBC radio play of that was AMAZING!!

A book you see all over instagram/twitter but haven’t picked up yet

There are a lot of books that just aren’t my thing on Twitter (I’m not on instagram). But maybe the one that was most popular for a while that I can remember was To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. It sounds so romantic and embarrassing and not for me! As far as books on Twitter I actually plan to pick up maybe Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant (I’m super excited to read this….at some point). Or Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon is everywhere now too.

So that is just a handful of all the books I really should have read! What about you? I’d love to know your answers too, either for you to do the full tag or just let me know in the comments!

Tagging a bunch of newer followers in this alongside some faves. I’d love to get to know your tastes more and find out which books you’ve been putting off!

  1. Thank you for the tag! I was hesitant to read To All the Boys too but I ended up really loving it, it’s quite charming 🙂 Really loved 1984 too, I think it’s definitely worth the read if you ever do get to it!

  2. Thanks for tagging me!
I’m seeing Priory everywhere these days too, and I haven’t read it yet – it sounds gorgeous, but it’s so long that I don’t know if I will ever actually get to it. Anyway, I’m always glad when a f/f book gets a lot of hype.
And I loved Into the Drowning Deep, I hope you like it too when/if you end up reading it!

    1. I’ll definitely be reading into the drowning deep soon. I agree. It’s so nice to see f/f stories getting hype (and you know just seeing more of them altogether!!)

    1. I think both books are at the stage now where people suggest you read them just because of the discourse around then rather than because of the actual books.

  3. Thank you for the tag! I definitely have way too many books on the TBR so this should help give me a kick up the butt!

I did love To All the Girls I Loved Before for some fluffy romance 🙂 And I remember reading City of Bones over 10 years ago and didn’t continue the series because of the weird romance? From looking at reviews the author resolves everything so it’s all fine, but at the time I felt really uncomfortable!

Lovely answers, and I’ll definitely post mine soon 🙂

    1. I actually don’t even know what weird romance you mean because somehow the series really did pass me by that completely! Haha.

I look forward to seeing your post

  4. I should’ve read the rest of the Shade of Magic series too, I’ve only read the first one so far. And I’ve had History of Wolves on my TBR since it came out, so I should probably pick that one up soon too. Thanks for tagging me 😊
