OOoh we’re half way there… (SAL)

it’s time to share my cross stitching progress with you all again. I’ve actually got a lot done since the last time despite the fact that for over half of the time I’ve been ill with a very sore neck but anyway here it is next to last time.

Just the gold to add in but otherwise I have finished the bottom half. The random lines coming off the three berries in the middle will be holly leaves but they will be in gold, like the antlers will be. I’m leaving all the gold till the end though as I still haven’t decided exactly which gold to use!

And here is the whole thing so you can see the size better: (I had to photograph it on the floor because it wouldn’t fit on my desk!)

I’m excited to move into the top half for the next update but it also means that I should probably start thinking of designing the next project I’ll work on. With that in mind I splurged on a load of colourful 18 count fabric over the Christmas period and I’d like some opinions on which to design first. (18 count is my fav so I just went with that for everything)

Exhibit A:

this butterscotch fabric which is the colour of antique maps for a travel inspired piece. It’ll be a map of the world with a travel quote. I was originally thinking “Travel” Change! Interest! Excitement!” which is a quote from Wind in the Willows but I’m not sure anymore. Maybe something more generic like “let’s be adventurers”. I’d love to use “not all those who wander are lost” but that’s copyrighted. Any ideas on a travel quote to use would be lovely

Exhibit B:

White fabric (I don’t have a photo, I trust that you all know what white aida looks like!) which will have the quote “star light. Star bright, first star i see tonight. I wish I may I wish I might have this wish I wish tonight.” And will be appropriately night sky-y with stars.

exhibit C:

this navy blue fabric which will be a design of the sea and waves which will have the quote “life is a wave, surf it ”

um. I don’t actually know yet but I bought black fabric too because a load of you have been using it and it looks freaking amazing. I would love to do the quote “if we shadows have offended think but this and all is mended, that you have but slumbered here as these visions did appear ” which is from A Midsummers’ Nights Dream and would be appropriately leafy and fairy decked. But it’s a very long quote and a bit obscure. I mean I love the quote, it’s all about dreams and nightmares fading away but I don’t think anyone would actually buy it lol

So let me know what you think, do any of them prick your interest more than others?

This post is part of a stitchalong where we share the progress we’ve made on our individual cross stitch projects every three weeks.

    1. I’m planning on leaving the words blank so the white fabric comes through but I know what you mean. I’m hoping that because it’s 18 count that the coverage will be thick enough that there won’t be much white between the stitches.

  1. Your Christmas piece is looking amazing! White on Red is really stunning. Can’t wait to see progress on the other half. Wow, you are ambitious! All are great ideas. Since I am a fairy, pixie kind of gal, the black fabric with the quote from Midsummer’s Nights Dream sounds like it will be beautiful. And black fabric is very stunning with stitching on it. Not fun to work on, but the end result is amazing.

    1. I think that’s my favourite idea too but not sure it’d be a very popular quote. I’ll see what I come up with on the designing stage. I might have to make it any way!

    1. Thank you! That’s good to know. Everyone has said different ones so far but at least it means people like all the ideas haha

  2. I really love this piece, though it is considerably larger than I first thought!
I like the idea of the travel quote with Wind in the Willows, but all your ideas are lovely!

  3. That looks awesome!!! Such a talent. As for the new ideas, they all sound great. Although if I was to pick one, the stars would be my choice. The quote evokes so many memories of my childhood and being a massive Peter Pan fan, just has to be something involving the starry night sky 😊

  4. I love the Christmas project. I didn’t realize it was so large! I like all of your ideas. I love the darker fabrics especially the Navy but the black would be amazing too. If you like the quotes don’t second guess your original thought. In most cases our original thought is the best.
