There are a lot of smaller things going on right now. I might have had an update on my quilt to post if I hadn’t been spending most of my time working on a super secret project for my friends birthday next month. And as super secret projects go, I can’t share it with you so rather than a coherent post about my progress on one crafty thing or other you are getting a general update on Life as I know it.
First up (or second up if you count my non update about my super secret project), just a little update on the camel stitch cowl that I’m sure you are all bored of me mentioning by now. But I started it finally and I am more than half way through. It is so warm and cozy. I decided to do a double wrap cowl as I knew a snug cowl would only use half the yarn (if that) and, having spent my money on the lovely self striping Caron cake, it would be a shame if I didn’t get the full effect.
Here’s where I am up too:
There’s the rest of the darker grey I’m doing right now and then another round of blue and white before it’s done. Camel stitch is so easy and it is fast becoming my favourite stitch for thick yarn (the puff stitch is thick enough with dk!).
In non craft related news (I know, right, I didn’t think that existed either), I watched my first ever ice hockey match on tv last week. I kind of became obsessed with Ice Hockey because of a story idea that popped into my head (Okay so this isn’t completely non craft related) and yeah, so I’ve never actually watched Ice Hockey before but I did spend a lot of time on youtube watching compliations of people getting in fights and stuff so that helped. But a friend of mine pointed out that there was a new channel that showed ice hockey matches in the UK so I managed to record one and watch it. It was good, I wasn’t as lost as I thought I’d be and understood most of the rules (apparently my youtube and google sessions helped) but…. I could only figure out where the puck was about half the time. It’s so damn small and it’s so damn fast! But I’m going to give it some time. Maybe it will get easier. My parents already think I’m obsessed so in for a penny in for a pound. The only problem is that between watching the football and the F1 I don’t have that much energy to be watching anything else.
Moving on from vague sport related story ideas to my actual writing WIP (Work In Progress)…..
Having finished writing my prequel story in July, I am well and truly into prep for writing the actual novel. I have my chapter plan finished and I know who my point of view characters are for each of them. I’m planning on starting the writing in November and taking part in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) again to help boost me on my way. I have started outlining each chapter in preparation. I’ve finished the outline of 7 chapters so far (my outlines are about 1k per chapter) and hoping to have done 11 by then (the full book will have 20).
Here’s a very vague one line synopsis:
The crew of the airship, the Princess Blue, enjoy the freedom of the skies but the arrival of a new crew member and torn allegiances force them to confront the boiling tensions back on land.
Like I said, very vague, but it’s going to be a steampunk fantasy with magic and pirate attacks and betrayal and I’m very excited about writing it.
So November then turns into December and then comes Christmas. If you’ve been reading my blog then you will have seen my very christmassy cross stitch updates but that’s not all because I have also added some sets of papercut christmas cards to my etsy shop.
I’ll also be designing some typographic vinyl ones as well but they won’t be up for a week or two now as I have a rather important birthday card to make first.
Is it too early to post about christmas? haha. I’m actually quite behind as I’ve normally started buying presents by now to spread it out but I haven’t even thought about them yet. Do you watch ice hockey? Am I supposed to know where the puck is at all times? Does it get easier? And anyone planning on taking part in NaNoWriMo this year? Have you started thinking about it? What are you going to be doing?
Beautiful cards, and it is never to early to start on handmade items for Christmas.

I love it all! I am almost done with a few Christmas gifts for people. I don’t want the pressure of having to finish them up during December so I have no problems with thinking ahead.
