A lot of new things happening with me craftwise at the moment. After spending half of last year doing one cross stitch project I’ve decided to try a lot of small ones for now. Starting with this bookmark.
It’s the first time I’ll be making a bookmark. The first time I’ll be stitching on anything other than the normal AIDA fabric. First time that I have tried stitching across two. And also the first time I have used metallic thread (it hasn’t really shown up well in this photo though).
Phew.
I’m thinking of backing it with some black felt that I have, I would prefer fabric but I still haven’t managed to get to the lovely craft store I want to go to after 5 months so I doubt I’ll have been before I finish this.
I’m finding stitching across two pretty difficult. Not the actual stitching so much as the counting. Maybe I made a mistake by picking something with such large areas between stitches but, even with the guide I gave myself around the outside, I’m finding it very difficult for my already foggy brain to do. I am liking this stars and (soon to be) moon pattern, I found it on pinterest. It looks like a scan of something that was in a newspaper or something, I’ve made up the colours though.
I’m looking forward to going through the different cross stitch fabrics that Claire sent me (Thank you again), and have lots of projects in mind.

You are going to learn a lot from this small project 🙂 Then you’ll have definite preferences but it’s nice to try lots of different fabrics and threads first. For me, metallic thread is a complete no no. I love to see embroidery that has it but I hate to sew with it.

I’m looking forward to giving the fabrics a try. But I think I’m going to try the 20 count linen I have after I finish this one. It’ll be a bit easier to count!

Sometimes it doesn´t matter if you sew on Aida or not. Instead it depends on the fabric. When I sew my Dog Roses, I had a fabric that was hard to sew on, because the threads in the fabric were in two colors and the thickness of the threads altered all the time. Hope you understand what I mean 🙂 What I´m trying to say, is that you shouldn´t give up after this first try. BTW, your embroidery looks great!

Thanks, I think I meant more sewing over two as non-Aida fabric tends to have a higher thread count. But I’m going to give some linen 20 count a go next so I don’t have to go over two.
