My Books of 2015

I set my reading challenge on Goodreads at just 10 books this year because. as I said at the start of the year, I didn’t want the pressure of reaching a certain number. I was also in the midst of a massive reading rut, I’m glad to say that ended and my reading habits picked up as the year went on. In the end. I managed to complete 32 new books this year (I’m not including retreads or DNFs in this mainly because I don’t keep track of them). Here’s a quick summary of the books I’ve read that I’ve stolen from goodreads:

If you want to see a full list of what books I’ve read this year you can check out my reading challenge here. Goodreads tells me that my average rating for books was 3.4 out of 5.

My Top Ten Books of 2015

The Princess and The Fool by Paul Neafcy *****

princess“What are we going to do?”

“Something very foolish.”

Princess Katherine gets lost in the wilderness in the middle of a war with all kinds of bandits and magical creatures after her. Her only companion is her Fool, who, like most things, isn’t what he seems.

The Spirit Eater (Eli Monpress #3) by Rachel Aaron*****

The Spirit War (Eli Monpress #4) by Rachel Aaron *****

Spirit’s End (Eli Monpress #5) by Rachel Aaron *****

emEli Monpress is clever, he’s determined, he’s the greatest thief of the age and he’s also a wizard and he’s in way over his head.

First rule of thievery: don’t be a hero.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab *****

magicKell is one of the last Travelers—rare magicians who choose a parallel universe to visit.

Grey London is dirty, boring, lacks magic, ruled by mad King George. Red London is where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London is ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. Once there was Black London—but no one speaks of that now.

Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman bastards #2) by Scott Lynch *****gb

There isn’t much I can say about this without spoilers for The Lies of Locke Lamora so go and read that one first and I’ll leave you with this quote:

“I suspect this is all gonna end in screaming and drowning”

The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles #1) by Patrick Rothfuss *****

‘I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.

My name is Kvothe.
You may have heard of me’

Angelfall (Penryn and the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee *****

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Touch by Claire North *****

Kepler is like you, but not like you.

With a simple touch, Kepler can move into any body, live any life – for a moment, a day or for years.

And your life could be next.

The Martain by Andy Weir *****

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.
