It’s world book day today, I have to say I had no idea until I looked at Twitter when I woke up at lunchtime. But I thought I would make a post in honour of World Book Day 2015.
15 books that have guided my love of reading over my life.
Starting with 3 of the first books that I ever remember loving.

These next ones are the first ones that I remember hiding away under my pillow so I could re-read them after I was suppose to be asleep.

These 3 are the books that I think really started my love of reading. I picked up Stormbreaker when I was about 10 years old after my brother had read it and these are really the first books where as soon as I finished one I would want the next one to read. I sped through them all and re-read them many times, they all have a special place on my bookshelf.

Survivor (Alpha Force series book 1) by Chris Ryan
Recruit (Cherub series book 1) by Robert Muchamore
These books are the first books that really got me to start reading more adult fiction. I don’t mean xx stuff, just books aimed at adults rather than the action/adventure kids books I had been reading.

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by JK Rowling
My parents read this book to me (7) and my brother(9), we’d lie on my parents bed with mum in the middle (otherwise we’d fight with each other) and she’d read to us. It started with my brother reading one page for every chapter mum read, then as we got older and onto the next book he’d read a chapter, she’d read a chapter and i’d read a page, then we’d all read a chapter. Until I got older and too impatient and stole the fourth book and read it at night by myself. Harry Potter really was a part of my life, I grew up with them and they will always mean so much to me (Even though JK’s maths is terrible).
Peter Pan by JM Barrie
A lot of people say that this is a childrens book. But like the best childrens books it has so much more in than the Disney story that gets taken from it. I get a lot of people tell me that they’ve read it when I mention it but after a bit of probing they haven’t really, its just that its such a familiar story. All I can say is you should definitely give the book by Barrie a try. It’s actually really sad, maybe that’s because I’m a bit of a sap when it comes to my favourite fictional characters, but I love it.
And my last honourable mentions are going to be for some of the worlds that i’ve fallen into over the years. Im excluding the Harry Potter universe from this as I have already included it up there.
Disc World by Terry Prachett
This is such a fantastical world, its something that really made me think that we could create anything you ever wanted. Any world that you could possibly dream up. Now, a lot of people find Prachett a bit difficult to read, which I can definitely understand, but there is a series of books following a character called Tiffany Aching that are aimed at younger readers. (A Hat Full of Sky, The Wee Free Men, Wintersmith and I Shall Wear Midnight) I loved these books, they’re all still set in the disc world, and you’re introduced to characters and places that are in all the other books as well but they concentrate on a smaller story, I find them a bit more….Linear? A lot easier to follow and a great place to get in to the world from.
A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin
Okay yes, you totally expected me to say this at some point, I know. Its absolutely everywhere but I’m not even sorry for including it here. It really is amazing. I will never understand how one man can create such an in-depth world. I struggle to name the main couple towns/cities, and give my main characters surnames when I write but he probably has named thousands of people in his books. Families, and friends of families, and the families of friends of families and NONE of them are pointless. From the food to the clothes it is an amazingly in-depth world and that’s not even mentioning the story!
And Okay, some of you may have noticed that I’ve only named 14 but 2015 is only just beginning so I have to leave room for one just in case right?

The Book Thief is one of my favorite books of all time. I literally held it and cried when I finished it. So beautiful!
