I mentioned in the last post that I had some craft time to spare since finishing my blanket squares and like I normally do, I have greatly over estimated. The problem I have is that as soon as I allow myself to think, ‘hmmm, what shall I do next?’ my brain inundates me with a thousand things that I want to make.
I guess it was inevitable, seeing as I’ve been putting any inspiration for new projects in boxes and storing them in the back of my mind for over a year. I thought I would make a post about some of the new projects that got broke through the dam.
1. Loom Knitting a hat for one of my besties. I mentioned in my last post about how I was planning to Loom Knit my friend a hat. Well she chose the yarn, I bought it, its here, and ready to be loomed. It’s still summer where she is at the moment though so this one has been put on a bit of a back burner while i wade through some others.
2. Cross stitch! I haven’t cross stitched anything since I did my name in school as a tiny little kid. But, i’ve always been interested in embroidery and this was a good place to start. One of my aunts bought me a cross stitch kit for Christmas and while I have no motivation to do the pattern that was included, having all the tools made me want to give cross stitch a go. I bought my own pattern (I went with a pattern based on House Martell from Game Of Thrones), I was going to start with something epic and complicated, I have a tendency to jump in the deep end, but managed to peg myself back a bit and chose something with a few straight lines and some text so it would be easy to tell if I was starting to go wrong. The pattern called for 5 colours but I’ve gone for 4 as i’m changing it slightly (I know, I’m getting deeper as we speak), and I started this the other day, I’ve only done a little but think its rather neat. Can you tell what it is yet? I really hope I manage to hang on to my motivation and finish this.
3.Fuse Beads, I also got inspired to give Hama/Perler/those melty bead things a try (I’m not sure what to call them as I know Hama is just a brand name). So I bought a starter pack from ebay and a few peg boards from amazon. They arrived today. And i’ve been intching to give them a go. While i was waiting for them to arrive I made a board on Pinterest especially for Hama bead inspiration so I could start straight away. You can take a look at it here if you are interested in what you can make or want ideas yourself.
4. Finally, (well not really finally because i seem to have an endless supply of yarn and always want to make more stuff with it but for the purpose of this post, Finally) I have started to sew up my Tunisian crochet blanket. Its a slow process, as there are lots of squares, but I’m extremely excited that its started to look like an actual blanket after 14 months rather than just loads of squares. I seem to have invented the way i’m seeming them together. I know I watched it on YouTube, but when trying to find out what stitch i was using to explain to a friend I couldn’t find mention of it anywhere. I did try all the others in my panic that I was doing it wrong, but this one was by far the nicest so I’m going to keep going.
You can see at the bottom of this picture where I have started sewing the horizontal edges together, then it goes into the individual squares. So first look at my blanket, what do you all think?
